02-13-2013 - Consolo of Douglas Elliman to speak at NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate event

Faith Hope Consolo, chairman of Douglas Elliman's Retail Group, will offer her perspective on "Retail Real Estate Around the World" to students, faculty and alumni of New York University's Schack Institute of Real Estate on Wednesday, February 13, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the institute's Midtown Center, 11 West 42nd St. Among the topics Consolo will discuss are: how increasing globalization of the retail sector is changing leasing globally; the growing numbers of foreign chains expanding around the U.S.; international investment in retail; and the growth of U.S. brands overseas. "I'm honored to speak once again at the prestigious Schack Institute, which does so much to train the real estate leaders of tomorrow," Consolo said. "And through the give-and-take from the audience, I always end up learning as much as the students!" Over more than two decades in retail real estate, Consolo has been a pioneer in bringing international retail to New York City and beyond, including such major fashion names as Buccellati, Jimmy Choo, Versace and Zara. In addition, her real estate clients comprise an international coterie of private and public investors, entrepreneurial owners and developers. "Retail increasingly is a global business, with brands now coming from all over the world," said Consolo, who as vice chairman of Garrick-Aug Worldwide opened that firm's first European office in Paris in the 1980s, at the time an extraordinary move for a U.S. brokerage. "Back then, we largely worked with European luxury retailers looking to stake their claim in New York City. Today, I'm representing retailers and owners from South America, the Middle East, India and Australia as well. This is an exceptional time in our business, and I'm looking forward to describing at the Schack Institute." A frequent lecturer on industry trends, Consolo has spoken at the Wharton Business School, the Parsons School of Design, and the Steven L. Newman Real Estate Institute at Baruch College, as well as numerous industry associations. In 2012, she was the recipient of Mercy College's Trustees Medal. The Schack Institute event is free to all students, faculty and alumni of the Institute. It is not open to the general public.
