YM/WREA holds its sixth annual kayaking event on July 8th; event orchestrated by Brause; attended by 16 members

On July 7th, the YM/WREA kayakers got word that the sixth annual summer kayaking trip would, indeed, take place. Although thunderstorms threatened to derail the journey from the Long Island City Boathouse to Governor's Island and back, the decision was made to proceed the next morning, July 8th, slightly later than the crack of dawn in order to take advantage of southerly flowing currents. A flawless trip ensued; more importantly, the rain never materialized. The day was slightly overcast but warm, the 16 YM/WREA kayakers, surrounded by seven boathouse volunteers from the Long Island City Boathouse, landed on Governor's Island in two hours. The sun appeared, free bicycles were offered for a tour of the island, and following a lunch, the kayakers donned life vests once again for the return trip, this time aided by a stronger northerly current. Many agreed that this year's kayak outing could have been the best ever. A great team effort, it was a orchestrated initiative by David Brause, who was one of the group's most experienced kayakers. Established in 1948, with a membership totaling approximately 394, Young Men's/Women's Real Estate Association promotes greater understanding and knowledge of the real estate industry among its constituents through its monthly luncheons and wide variety of philanthropic activities including New York Cares, Central Park Clean-Up Day, an Annual Blood Drive, among others, in addition to many social functions.
