West Side Square tops off 12-story residential tower

Jersey City, NJ West Side Square (WSS) marked a step forward in its transformative journey with the topping-off of its first residential tower, The Residences at West Side Square. The celebration brought together city leaders, creative collaborators, and community members to honor the future of Jersey City’s West Side, a new lifestyle district where design, culture, and urban energy converge.

West Side Square is being developed through a collaborative partnership between Lanterra Developments, Westdale Properties, Lantree Developments and Altree Developments.

Starting at West Side Square (1075 West Side Avenue), the ceremony commemorated the structural completion of the 12-story tower that will soon introduce 477 rental residences, anchoring a mixed-use destination set to include a vibrant outdoor piazza, curated retail, pet-friendly amenities, a lobby café, restaurants, and public art installations.

Inspired by Jersey City’s industrial heritage, this pedestrian-friendly space will feature cobblestone walkways, open-air markets, and an evolving arts and music scene, making it a true cultural destination. The project is a fusion of public and private spatial design, seamlessly integrating sophisticated living spaces with communal areas to establish a unique destination that fosters connection and engagement for both residents and visitors.

The event kicked off on the second floor amenities deck with remarks from the team behind the project, including Zev Mandelbaum, president and CEO of Altree Developments; Raphael Mandelbaum, principal and vice president of Lantree Developments and Mitchell Cohen. They were joined by Hudson County commissioner William O'Dea and senator Raj Mukherji, who presented a Senate Proclamation recognizing the project’s contribution to the revitalization of Jersey City’s West Side and its role in shaping the city’s future.

Afterward, guests had the opportunity to explore the amenities deck, which includes resort-style pools, private cabanas, a screening theater, and a dedicated podcast room.

Following the topping-off, guests walked from WSS to Mana Contemporary, Jersey City’s cornerstone for artistic innovation, for a creative celebration. Attendees were warmly thanked by the development team, who led a celebratory champagne toast in honor of the milestone and the community that made it possible.

Guests were treated to private access and personalized tours to the Andy Warhol exhibit, an experience not open to the public, alongside live screen-printing with a custom design by Mana Contemporary artist-in-residence and illustrator Ann Muntges. Coffee and pastries were served by Almost Home General, while lunch was provided by Jersey City institution Salumeria Ercolano’s. Floral arrangements by Made of Leaves, a Jersey City-based bespoke floral design studio.

Attendees included a diverse mix of local entrepreneurs, artists, and small business owners. Photography was captured by Jonathan Mannion Photography.

Guest enjoyed a dynamic multimedia experience that unveiled the design inspiration and creative direction behind West Side Square, along with playful activations that brought the spirit of “living as art” to life, including a LEGO station where attendees could build their own bouquets and miniature houses, and a candy cart stocked with colorful, sugary treats. The immersive event experience was designed to reflect the district’s creative DNA, blending urban development with bold artistic expression and community-first values.

Located within walking distance of the Journal Square PATH station, West Side Square offers residents access to Manhattan and the greater tri-state area. Set for completion in Summer 2026, West Side Square will serve as a focal point in Jersey City’s ongoing transformation into a cultural and creative epicenter, weaving into the fabric of the city’s future. Leasing opportunities for the property will be available starting in Spring 2026.
