The Salvadori Center has hosted its 2014 Annual Cocktail Benefit on May 7 at The Atrium Shops and Cafés, bringing together building industry professionals to raise funds for the collaborative, project-based learning experiences the center provides to students throughout the five boroughs.
The event also honored three eminent New Yorkers for their contributions to the fields of business, design and public service with the Founder's Awards for Excellence. This year's honorees were David Bellman, senior vice president of Avalon Bay Communities, Inc.; Bruce Fowle, FAIA, LEED, founding principal of FXFOWLE; and Dr. Antonio Pérez, president of Borough of Manhattan Community College.
The 2014 Annual Cocktail Benefit raised $465,507 to support Salvadori Center's residencies in New York City public schools and assist in program expansion. Various student projects based on practical engineering principles were displayed in the event space, illustrating the Center's goal of inspiring math and science learning through exploration of the built environment.
