New Ground, Inc. to honor Sciara of Nelson & Pope at 24th Annual Golf Tournament & Dinner on May 20th

Garden City, NY New Ground, Inc. will host its 24th Annual Golf Tournament & Dinner on Monday, May 20th to raise funds in support of homeless Veterans and families struggling on Long Island. This event will honor Michael Sciara, an architect and partner at Nelson & Pope. With 20 years of experience in the design, planning and implementation of projects for private and public sector clients, his portfolio includes many large-scale commercial, retail, mixed-use, healthcare, educational and hospitality space.  

Through the years, Sciara has sought to improve the quality of his field, advocate for greater mentorship opportunities and give back to the local community by participating with charitable and non-profit organizations. He sits on the board of NGIP Inc., a subsidiary of New Ground, with other business leaders assisting New Ground in the development and management of local housing opportunities. Through this initiative, homeless Veterans and families participate in the Long Term Housing Program working on goals to secure future independence. He also engages his team of architects to participate with Canstruction Long Island, which is a design/build competition that challenges teams to build larger than life structures entirely made from canned food and whose proceeds are donated to local food banks annually before the Thanksgiving holiday. He is a graduate of New York Institute of Technology, was recently named among Long Island Business News’ Top 40 Under 40, and resides in Plainview with his wife Heather and their four young sons.  

“Members of our amazing community of supporters, like Michael Sciara, are truly transforming lives,” said Shannon Boyle, executive director of New Ground. “When families come to us, they are dealing with unfortunate circumstances and through our intensive social work services, we are able to not only get them back on their feet but implement long-term solutions to break their cycle of poverty and homelessness now and for future generations.”

The event is co-chaired by longtime friends and attorneys, Larry Davis and Ira Prager of Larry & Davis, P.C. in Patchogue. It will take place at Cherry Valley Club. In addition to a day of golf, registration for New Ground’s Golf Tournament & Dinner includes brunch, contests on the course, cocktails, dinner and an awards ceremony. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and tee-off is at 12:30 p.m.
