It was at Rosen that I learned the "nuts and bolts" of the shopping center business. What do you do now and what are you planning for the future? Kimco Realty Corp., a real estate investment trust (REIT), owns and operates one of the nation's largest portfolios of neighborhood and community shopping centers. The company owns interests in almost 2,000 properties comprising 180 million s/f of leasable space across 45 states, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Brazil and Peru. We are publicly traded on the NYSE under the symbol KIM and included in the S&P 500 Index. We hope to continue the growth of our successful platform in the years to come. Favorite book: With a 2 1/2 year old, it's hard to find time to sit down with a good book. I do most of my reading early in the a.m., which consists of the Wall Street Journal, trade magazines and several news websites. Person you admire most (outside of family): I admire entrepreneurs who are willing to take risks in order to "build" a business. When Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) were first part of commercial real estate risk management, it was the lenders driving this requirement. When a borrower wanted a loan on a property, banks would utilize a list of “Approved Consultants” to order the report on both refinances and purchases.
