First Green Real Estate Summit held March 5th

Speakers at the first Green Real Estate Summit, held March 5, confirmed that the rules are changing and that relationships between real estate parties and the documents that govern those relationships are evolving in response to the need for reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. Ellen Sinreich, chair of the summit and president of Green Edge, LLC said, "Real estate plays a major role in the U.S. in terms of contributing to greenhouse gas emissions, consumption of water, energy and natural resources and generation of waste. That means real estate can be a big part of the solution." Sinreich gathered experts on climate change, global warming and the legal and regulatory landscape to discuss the opportunities available to the real estate industry to create value and increase profitability by embracing sustainability. The speakers agreed that the tipping point for green real estate had come and recognized that those real estate companies that embrace "green" opportunities will reap the financial rewards resulting from more valuable properties. The event attracted 100 attendees.
