The FTZ program helps encourage activity and value-added production at U.S. facilities in competition with foreign alternatives by allowing delayed or reduced duty payments on foreign merchandise, as well as other savings. Businesses operating anywhere within Chenango County are eligible to apply for these benefits.

Physical Assets

Businesses that call Chenango home have the advantage of a distinctive combination of authentic small-town and urban attributes, and the convenience of being centrally located, within a few hours’ drive to major urban markets in the Northeast. The area provides access to a general aviation airport and freight rail transportation via NYSW and Norfolk Southern routes. Both routes have several potential industrial and manufacturing sites adjacent to the lines with siding. Chenango County operates a highway system of over 300 miles, which networks with state and interstate highways and provides easy access to the NYS Thruway, Interstates 81, 88 and 86. Chenango County also has two municipal electric systems (Sherburne and Greene), which provide low-cost electric service to residents and businesses within the boundaries of the systems.

Chenango County’s economy is comprised of several major industries, including Aerospace Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Health Care, Agriculture, and Financial Services. • 20 American Ave, Norwich: In the downtown area, this building was the former manufacturing facility for Norwich Pharmacal’s Unguentine Ointment. Heated four-story masonry warehouse.
