AG + Co. designs 5,000 s/f office and testing laboratory for Advantest
Manhattan-based Alan Gaynor + Co. (AG + Co.) has designed a new 5,000 s/f sales office and testing laboratory at 508 Carnegie Center for Japan-based testing equipment manufacturer Advantest America, Inc. The firm collaborated with Joshua Zinder Architecture + Design, architect for the landlord, Boston Properties.
Advantest, an AG + Co. client since 1985, commissioned the firm to work out the space and equipment requirements with its engineering staff - taking advantage of AG + Co. staff architect Yoshio Katagiri and his fluent Japanese - to confirm the layout of the space (with special emphasis on the laboratory layout and infrastructure); prepare preliminary contract documents incorporating the electrical, air conditioning, compressed air, electrical grounding, network drops, etc.; select the finishes to complement Advantest's new corporate standards, and coordinate the new furniture and equipment specifications.
"When we first collaborated with Advantest 25 years ago, its primary business involved selling testing equipment to IBM, as part of IBM's computer manufacturing process, and we've collaborated every six or so years since," said Michele Boddewyn, president of AG + Co.
"Suffice to say, we've cultivated quite a good working relationship over that period.
"In this particular project, fitting out the laboratory was the top priority. Advantest needed a space that could adequately store and make use of testing equipment, compressed air, fume hoods, chemical products, an eye wash station, overhead cable trays, x-ray equipment, etc. We worked closely with the landlord's Architect to make sure that this West Windsor location could comfortably juggle all of our client's needs, and, upon completion, designed what we are confident is an ideal space in which they can operate."
Alan Gaynor + Company, founded in 1974, provides full-service architecture, interior design and planning services to a wide range of corporate, not-for-profit, commercial and medical clients. The firm's work ranges from highly individual designs for image-conscious clients to flexible, functional spaces for complex organizations. In 2010, the firm was designated a Women's Business Enterprise by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council.
