2024 Ones to Watch Rising Stars: Andreas Ignatiou, Hill West Architects

Andreas Ignatiou
Senior Associate
Hill West Architects

“This year we will celebrate the completion of 2230 Cropsey Ave., which will bring 248 units of new rental housing to Brooklyn. The efficient and successful completion of this iconic addition to Brooklyn’s skyline is a testament to Andreas’s strength in coordination and bringing out the best in his team.” - David West, Partner, Co-Founder at Hill West Architects.

How do you balance your rising career with your personal life?

Teamwork. From my team at home with my wife raising our daughters together to the team I manage in the office, it’s important to build a strong crew around you. Together we push each other to be the best versions of ourselves, whether as an architect, parent or overall person.

Beyond your professional achievements, what are some of your passions or hobbies?

To make the most of my professional and personal life, I emphasize self-care, which for me is running. Last year I ran my 10th marathon. To fit my practice into my schedule, and also decompress between work and home, I run from our FiDi offices to my home in Queens.

Who are the key people in your life that have contributed to your success?

I worked with a mentor early in my career in Cyprus who instilled in me the importance of inventive and inspired design. Ultimately, my continued growth as an architect over the past 12 years can be attributed to the unwavering support I have received from Hill West leadership.

Outside of your career, where? else do you seek continuous learning and personal growth??

I often find inspiration in fictional books and TV shows; architecture and urban design play a crucial role in creating rich storylines. My wife – also an architect – and our friends love to discuss the architectural themes we see on the screen that resonate in our industry in real life.
