02-07-2013 - Cohen of Douglas Elliman named chairperson of 3rd Annual New Yorkie Celebrity Doggie Fashion Show

Residential real estate broker Jessica Cohen, executive vice president of Douglas Elliman Real Estate, has been tapped as chairperson for the 3rd Annual New Yorkie Celebrity Doggie Fashion Show, being held Thursday, February 7, from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Ave., between 34th and 35th Sts. The event benefits Angel on a Leash, a non-profit organization that trains therapy dogs for use in hospitals, therapeutic facilities, senior centers and schools nationwide. "I am honored and delighted to be part of this event, which brings smiles to many and benefits a terrific organization," said Cohen. "I live with three amazing rescue dogs and my little Yorkie is actually a service dog who has helped countless people over the years. Therapy dogs are often the best medicine for people who are ill or infirm." In her role as chair, Cohen will also serve as one of four judges for the fashion/talent show, along with event founder and executive producer Elly McGuire, owner and designer of New Yorkie Doggie Couture; Nancy Novograd, CEO of renowned animal talent agency, All Tame Animals; and David Frei, iconic voice of the Westminster Dog Show and the evening's moderator. In addition, Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella will host the program, while television meteorologist and entertainer Ron Trotta provides candid commentary and canine insight. Cohen's predecessor for the 2012 event was actress Celeste Holm. Other celebrities already tapped for this year's show include Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary fame, MTV reality show star Kenny Santucci and MTV Total Request Live VJ Lindsey Rodrigues ,who will be conducting red carpet interviews. The four-legged contestants and their owners and handlers auditioned at a casting call on Saturday, January 5th from which 10 finalists were chosen that day. The categories that were judged comprise Fashion/Costume, Talent/Tricks and Story/History. The 3rd Annual New Yorkie Celebrity Doggie Fashion Show begins at 5:30 p.m. with Red Carpet Cocktails and photo ops, followed by the runway show from 7 p.m. Tickets for the cocktail reception plus show are $50 per person and for the show, only, $35.
