Related Cos., Oxford Properties Group, NYC & Co., KPF, Rockwell Group celebrate completion of Edge sky deck at 30 Hudson Yards

Manhattan, NY According to Related Companies, Oxford Properties Group, NYC & Company, KPF and Rockwell Group,  Edge, the Western Hemisphere’s highest outdoor sky deck, is officially completed. The new public space will offer 360 degree views of the NYC skyline.

Rising 1,131 ft. in the air from the center of Hudson Yards, the 100^th floor outdoor viewing area features a glass-floor, angled glass walls, outdoor skyline steps from the 100^th to 101^st floor of 30 Hudson Yards. Visitors can enjoy a toast in the sky with a glass of champagne from Edge’s bar on the 100^th floor or visit Peak (opening postponed due to COVID-19), the restaurant, bar, café and event space located on the 101^st floor. Visitors will also experience an immersive, multi-room ‘Journey to Edge’ show telling the history of New York City’s newest neighborhood from construction over an active rail yard to sustainability achievements and more. Hudson Yards also plans to offer NYC public school groups free visits to Edge and Vessel on Tuesdays.

Designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) and extending out 80 ft. from the 100^th floor of 30 Hudson Yards, Edge redefines the New York skyline. Its triangular form completes the tower’s architectural dialogue with the city. A marvel of modern engineering and structural design, the 765,000-pound observation deck is comprised of 15 sections, each weighing between 35,000 and 100,000 pounds, bolted together and anchored to the east and south sides of the building. The 7,500 s/f outdoor viewing area is surrounded by 79 glass panels, each weighing 1,400 pounds, manufactured in Germany and finished in Italy. Interiors of Edge and Peak were designed by Rockwell Group while the ‘Journey to Edge’ was created by the firm’s experience design studio, LAB at Rockwell Group.

“The Edge observation deck is the most dramatic in a series of gestures which link KPF’s buildings, in the Hudson Yards development, to the principal surrounding structures of the city,” said William Pedersen, KPF founding and design principal. “Gesturing directly towards the Empire State Building, and higher than its observation deck, Edge pays homage to its role as the most emblematic of all New York buildings.”
