What skill or quality do you believe is essential for success in your field today?

One key quality for me has always been cultivating a full picture understanding of risk management for my clients. Every transaction has many layers of risk and having the substantive knowledge to analyze the risks, understand leverage and prioritize issues is essential. Internalizing the client’s perspective and always understanding a client’s specific goals with their projects is another key skill. In keeping with the above, one must understand each given transaction and the specific goals of the client in that transaction to negotiate a successful outcome.

What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in commercial real estate?

Do it! The CRE industry is exciting, challenging and ever changing. Explore the industry, find your niche and own your expertise. Aside from industry events, find groups that are personally meaningful to you and get involved to grow your network wholistically and organically. It’s also very important to pick the right work environment. There are many spaces in CRE with wonderful leaders and mentorship opportunities from both men and women. Finding opportunities and people who support your growth and development is a real key to success.
