What skill or quality do you believe is essential for success in your field today?
Accounting in the real estate and construction industry goes beyond just tracking numbers. It requires understanding the financial implications of large, long-term projects and ensuring those projects are viable and profitable. As a staff accountant in a commercial architectural firm, I believe that critical thinking is an essential skill for success in today’s professional environment. While technical knowledge and attention to detail remain important, the ability to analyze complex data, assess financial risk, and make well-informed decisions sets top performers apart in this field.
What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in commercial real estate?
If I could give one piece of advice to a woman considering a career in commercial real estate, it would be to build a strong network early. Relationships are everything in commercial real estate. Whether you’re working on a deal, trying to source a project, or advancing in your career, having a solid network of professionals you trust, including other women, can open doors and provide vital support. Seek out women’s real estate organizations, local real estate associations, or even informal peer groups. Surrounding yourself with people who champion your growth is invaluable.
