AIA New York hosts 158th annual meeting and elects 2026 leadership

August 26, 2025 - Construction Design & Engineering

Manhattan, NY On June 18th AIA New York (AIANY) hosted its 158th annual meeting, where members gathered to elect 2026 leadership and celebrated the achievements of 2025 and its award recipients. The meeting also served as a moment to reflect on committee programs and initiatives of the last year, with a spotlight on 2025 AIANY president Benjamin Gilmartin, AIA’s presidential theme, “See You IRL: Designing for Public Life”.

New Leadership

Following an introduction from AIANY executive director Jesse Lazar, Assoc. AIA, the meeting began with a presentation from Gilmartin on his theme surrounding the importance of public spaces. He noted particularly the relevance of this theme in this present, pivotal moment, as New York City faces political turmoil, social fragmentation, and climate crises.

After presenting on the state of the chapter, from lectures and tours to its membership and advocacy, Gilmartin turned over the podium to 2024 AIANY board treasurer Alexander Lamis, FAIA, who presented on the chapter’s financial health and budget.

2025 AIANY board secretary Kirsten Sibilia, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP, presented the work of the nominating committee, who created the 2025 board and elective committee slate.
