In the last 12 months what accomplishment are you most proud of? The policy landscape for buildings has changed rapidly, and we are keeping up with it all. With new regulatory requirements at both state and local levels, the challenges are many, but so are the opportunities. We look at all applicable requirements like performance standards, electrification mandates, and more, and pair that planning with capital cycles, and subsidies like federal tax credits, to help the real estate community comply with regulations and meet their sustainability goals.

In the last 12 months what was one of the biggest challenges you faced as a leader and how did you overcome it? LL97 is the most challenging compliance requirement we’ve seen to date. We are excited to see the emissions reductions, but the regulations have caused confusion amongst owners. With little time remaining, and some rules not drafted yet, we’ve had to find ways to fill in the gaps. So we’ve crafted custom educational materials and risk assessments to enable owners and managers to implement a plan for compliance even when the rules are still under development.

Best books, podcasts, or apps for aspiring leaders: I love everything by Brené Brown and Richard Rohr. They always help to keep life in perspective- which is key in a challenging industry like ours!
