BOMA New York hosts first seminar of the 2017 calendar year

New York, NY BOMA New York’s first seminar of the calendar year, “2017 Funding for Development and Implementation of your Energy-Related Projects,” with Con Edison and NYSERDA was held on Thursday, January 12th, from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Club 101.

The seminar was a collaboration between Con Edison, NYSERDA and BOMA/NY to encourage building owners and managers to learn about programs that would increase funding for projects featuring speakers David Pospisil, manager of commercial and industrial energy solutions at Con Edison and Simonne Li, CMVP, project manager, commercial at New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA).

Pospisil and Li spoke with audience members about Con Edison’s reforming and changing energy vision, technology innovations and energy reduction incentives for large power users, as well as NYSERDA’s transition programs, commercial implementation assistance programs for energy reduction and the real-time energy management program.

BOMA/NY’s next event will be its 2017 Pinnacle Awards, which will be held from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd, at Pier 60 at Chelsea Piers.

The Pinnacle awards are New York City Real Estate’s biggest night of the year; honoring top commercial real estate professionals. To mark each new year, BOMA/NY and the spirit of New York City are celebrated by presenting these Pinnacle Awards to the premiere buildings and people in the city in over 10 categories. This year, seventeen nominees are competing for 10 awards and the Grand Pinnacle—the “Pinnacle of the Pinnacles”—which will be given to the building that achieves the highest score.

Local Pinnacle Award winners qualify to compete at the Regional, Mid-Atlantic The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) awards. Regional winners are then automatically entered in to the BOMA International TOBY competition.

This year’s nominees from the 10 awards categories are:

• Outstanding Local Member of the Year: Robert Catalano, Total Fire Protection; Kevin McGrath, Boston Properties, Inc.; and Deborah Tomasi, Cushman & Wakefield, Inc.

• Historical Building of the Year: 620 Avenue of the Americas. (Owner and management firm is RXR Property Management, LLC and the manager is Robert White.)

• New Construction: One World Trade Center. (Owner is The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, management firm is The Durst Organization, and the property manager is Tom Butler.)

• Earth: The Starrett-Lehigh Building (owner and management firm is RXR Realty, property manager is Mitchell Granto) and 100 Park Ave. (owner and management firm is SL Green Realty Corp., and the property manager is John Flaherty.)

• Henry J. Muller Vision Award:   The Port Authority of NY & NJ, World Trade Center Site.

• Manager of the Year (3-10): Brendan Shanley, Paramount Group, Inc.; Carol Nuzzo, RPA, FMA, SL Green Realty Corp.; and Nicholas Mather, RXR Realty.

• Manager of the Year (10+): Peter Gorry, RPA, CEM, SL Green Realty Corp.

• Renovated Building of the Year: 635-641 Avenue of the Americas (owner & management firm: SL Green Realty Corp.; property manager: Fatmire Perezaj).

• Operating Office Building of the Year – Category 3 (500,000-1 million s/f): 810 Seventh Ave./SLG 810 Seventh Lessee LLC (owner & management firm: SL Green Realty Corp.; property manager: Susana Kalaj); 222 Broadway (owner: RAR2-222 Broadway Owner SPE, LLC; management firm: L&L Holding Company, LLC; property manager: David Berk, RPA, LEED GA); 350 Park Ave. (owner: 350 Park EAT LLC; management firm: Vornado Office Management LLC; property manager: Diane Fagan).
