Stewart of Bertwood handles 715 s/f lease for New York Cake Pops

Manhattan, NY Bertwood Realty has secured a 715  s/f lease at 642 West 28^th St. (at 11^th) for New York Cake Pops.

Deborah Stewart, sales associate at Bertwood Realty handled this transaction.

New York Cake Pops offers delicious cake on a stick, think cupcake meets popsicle, in a variety of freshly baked flavors.

Founded by Lerida Mojica in 2009, she developed the concept in the Hot Bread Kitchen Incubator program out of East Harlem.

According to Stewart, “Lerida has been looking for the ideal spot ever since and is thrilled with what we found her, and best of all, she’ll seamlessly transition to her new space.”

The deal was signed last month and the tenant has taken possession. “This is a great space for Cake Pops to operate from,” said Stewart. “Their concept has a real buzz and is garnering rave reviews on social media and from New York foodies.”

NY Cake Pops founder was born in Mexico and came to the United States in 2003. She started making cake pops for friends and family and everyone said she should go into business. With the help of Hot Bread Kitchen, who provided access to commercial kitchens and business support, Cake Pops got started.

“This is a sublease with a tenant I’d placed in this space several years ago,” said Stewart. “Haute So Sweet had a successful wedding cake business, but the owner decided to close down and asked me to sublease the space to a similar tenant who would also purchase the installed equipment. We were able to structure the transaction so that Haute’s baking equipment was bundled into terms of the deal. It was a win-win for everyone, including the landlord.”

642 West 28th St. is owned by Waterfront New York and represented themselves in the transaction.
