Global Gateway Alliance (GGA) chairman and founder Joseph Sitt has been honored with the "City & State Award for Outstanding Leadership" for his promotion and advocacy for the improvement of New York's airports.
City & State president Tom Allon presented the award to Sitt, the president and CEO of global real estate leader Thor Equities, at a ceremony at John Jay College.
As part of its improvement campaign, GGA has conducted a number of studies to shed light on the problems facing the New York metropolitan area's airports and related infrastructure.
Through studies and advocacy, GGA has highlighted a range of issues, including the fact that the region had the longest Customs wait times in the country, with passengers stuck in line for over two hours. GGA called for the installation of automated Customs kiosks to help expedite the process, and since then, the New York area has seen the introduction of 145 kiosks, slashing wait times and enhancing the security of the region's gateways.
"We are thrilled to be recognized by City & State for our corporate and social responsibility," Sitt stated. "The Global Gateway Alliance has been working hard to put New York area airports on the map. For years our airports were getting the short shrift, and while we have made great progress in putting this important issue on the public and political agenda, there is still much work to be done."
