Ariel Property Advisors and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce raised $12,000 for the Brooklyn Community Foundation's Brooklyn Recovery Fund during the RED (Real Estate Development) Nite for Hurricane Relief held November 8th, in Prospect Heights.
Originally planned as an evening of networking for the real estate community, event sponsor Ariel Property Advisors and the Brooklyn Chamber turned it into a RED Nite for Hurricane Relief after Hurricane Sandy devastated neighborhoods throughout the borough. Shimon Shkury, president of Ariel, pledged that his firm would match donations made at the event up to $5,000 but as the evening progressed and donations rose above that number, he readily increased the firm's pledge to $6,000.
"I'm overwhelmed by the generosity of the Brooklyn business community and deeply grateful to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and everyone who came out and donated to the Brooklyn Recovery Fund," Shkury said. "Our company feels very strongly about giving back to the communities in which we do business and I'm very pleased that these contributions will go to help those hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy."
The Brooklyn Recovery Fund is a joint effort between the Brooklyn Community Foundation, the Office of the Brooklyn borough president, and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce to create a pooled fund to provide support to Brooklyn's nonprofit organizations working with the communities and individuals most affected by Hurricane Sandy.
"I want to thank Chamber members, attendees, Ariel Property Advisors and its president Shimon Shkury for their generosity," said Carlo Scissura, president & CEO of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. "We were able to raise $12,000 in just two hours for the Brooklyn Recovery Fund, which shows how much Brooklynites care about their borough in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. This money will go to residents and small business owners in the borough that need it most. I want to thank everyone for giving and I encourage more people to donate money in the coming days and weeks."
The event was held in the ground floor community use condominium at 823 Classon Avenue, a newly developed space in Prospect Heights that is being marketed for sale by Ariel Property Advisors.
