May 25, 2010 - Brokerage
Name: David Zar
Title: Vice President
Company: Zar Property NY
Location: 37th St. in Midtown Manhattan
Birthplace and date: California, June 28, 1980
Family: Married, no kids
College: Hofstra University; bachelors in Banking & Finance and minor in Economics
First job outside of real estate: Greeted customers and folded clothing at The Gap
First job in real estate or allied field: Started as a rental agent for a small boutique company. After leasing several high end apartments and small mom & pop stores that were available for an extended period of time, I realized I had found my niche and decided I should take it to the next level.
What do you do now and what are you planning for the future? Leasing & Acquisitions for Zar Property NY, a family-based company founded by my uncle Dario Zar and cousin Simon Zar. I oversee leasing in-house for our commercial and retail vacancies and will be focusing on upcoming distressed opportunities.
Hobbies: Traveling, reading, following (rock band) Pearl Jam on the road
Person you admire most (outside of family): I was once watching a documentary on PBS on the history of Manhattan Island and they quoted a developer who said: "When the land is limited, look towards the sky." He helped me realize New York City will always be limited with boundaries and will always have a future. So, I guess it was he.
Key to success: My father taught me the key to success is honesty and integrity. A good reputation is vital to success and clients must learn that a handshake is more important to you than any written document.
If you had to choose another vocation what would it be? Attorney
