Manhattan, NY The James Lenox House Association (JLHA), comprised of James Lenox House and Carnegie East House, New York City’s not-for-profit independent and enriched living communities for older adults, hosted nearly 700 guests at its Spring Blossoms Gala in April. Held at The Plaza Hotel, the gala included a live and silent auction, which helped to raise more than $1 million for the communities.

Other standout moments from the night included the recognition of three New Yorkers, honored at the event for their contributions to JHLA.

James Phillips, AIA, founder and managing executive of TPG Architecture, and Joseph Romano, chief executive officer of JRM Construction Management were co-recipients of the 2025 Mary Lenox Sheafe Award.

Additionally, former JLHA board member Barbara Samuelson received the Lifetime Service Award.

The Spring Blossoms Gala raises funds needed to support the more than 185 residents of James Lenox House and its sister residence, Carnegie East House, enabling vital health and wellness programs, including innovative exercise classes and a calendar of daily activities, social work counselors, guest speakers on health and safety topics, Medicare counseling, tech help by student volunteers, robust libraries, as well as cultural opportunities, in-house concerts and dance recitals for residents to socialize, which is critical given that a major enemy of older adults is social isolation.
