New York, NY With the emergence of Legionnaire’s Disease in several New York City water towers in August, the ensuing fatalities and rapid passing of laws and regulations by both New York State and New York City have raised a number of pressing—and practical questions—in the minds of portfolio managers, building managers and building team leaders across the city.
When it comes to keeping a building free of Legionella, does one comply with New York State regulations, the New York City laws, or both? And what are the differences between them? How does ASHRAE 188 fit into the compliance picture? What are the best practices that a building team and consultants should follow in achieving compliance? How do managers develop a team to satisfy the regulations? And how do the state and city regulations affect current water treatment contracts and costs?
BOMA/NY has assembled a panel of experts to answer these questions and more at its September 30th Issue Forum: Legionella and Your Cooling Tower: How to Comply with City & State Laws. One of the focal points of the panel discussion will be a side-by-side comparison of state and city compliance requirements, as well as the scientific side of Legionella and its ramifications, hands-on recommendations for keeping cooling tower systems safe and in complete compliance, and extensive Q&A, so that attendees leave the Issue Forum with all questions answered.
The BOMA/NY expert panel is still being assembled, but is already projected to include Dr. Janet Stout, research associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh, a leading expert in the causes/prevention of Legionnaire’s disease, representatives from the NYS Department of Health, NYC agencies including OEM, and consultants including Cascade Water Services Inc., full-service water treatment and environmental services company, and Homeyer Consulting, an industrial water consulting laboratory, specializing in HVAC and process-related waters.
As high-registration numbers are anticipated, interested attendees are encouraged to register early to guarantee a seat. Please contact BOMA/NY’s Mary Sorgente at (212) 239-3662 or [email protected] to register.
