2021 Women in Building Services: Tamera Talbert, CTA Architects, P.C.

Name: Tamera Talbert, AIA

Title: Project Manager

Company Name: CTA Architects, P.C.

What led you to your current profession?

Even though dance was my first love, I did have a lot of interest in the arts, architecture and photography growing up. I am proud to be a Clemson grad, and grateful for the path in life that it gave me.

Who was/is your mentor and how did s/he influence/help you in your career?

Carmen Ponder of Ponder and Ponder Architects in Atlanta, GA was my first boss out of college. She was a great role model as a woman architect. She was strong in design aesthetics and construction knowledge. She was always willing to explain and guide me as a young architect early in my career.

What trends will dominate your industry in the coming months?

I think the trends in the industry will be toward work/life balance. This past year has taught the world that tomorrow isn’t promised, and we should enjoy life that we have. I am also hopeful that after this past year the environmental issues will become a priority for the architectural industry.

How do you contribute to your community or profession?

In my office, I lead a team of six women. They are all strong, smart and capable women. I am proud to be their leader and enjoy working with each and every one of them. I hope that I make a difference in their life like they do in mine. If someone told me when I graduated college that I would end up with a team of all women, I would not have believed it.

What books or social media influencers would you recommend to other women?

Anything to save the environment! Anything to warm your heart! Everything to keep positive!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A dancer!

In the past year, what project, transaction or accomplishment are you most proud of?

Working through the pandemic and remaining flexible in my working style.
