What has been the most rewarding project or deal you’ve worked on in your career, and why? I cannot say that any one case has been the most rewarding. I have worked on so many interesting transactions in my career. I have represented many individuals and developers in significant projects on Long Island. Each transaction has a unique set of facts and challenges. The most rewarding part of each transaction is when all of the issues are resolved, and the matter finally closes.
What drew you to commercial real estate, and what keeps you passionate? I was always interested in real estate law. I started my career doing residential closings representing purchasers and well as lenders. My practice gradually expanded, and I had the opportunity to handle commercial real estate transactions and eventually represent prominent developers and investors in real estate transaction all over Long Island and New York City. I am always in awe as I travel on Long Island and New York City and see the various locations where I had an impact -representing either a seller, a purchaser, or a lender who financed the project.
What’s a challenge you faced early in your career, and how did you overcome it? I was the first women hired as an attorney at my first job out of law school. The firm was a very well-known prominent law firm on Long Island. I worked diligently to learn the real estate practice and gain the trust of the clients. It took hard work and dedication and was very satisfying to eventually establish my own reputation as a skilled real estate attorney.
What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in commercial real estate? The practice of real estate law is a very exciting and challenging aspect of the law. I always enjoy evaluating each transaction and working with the clients and various professional involved to target and resolve the issues. Each transaction is different and will present unique challenges. No two transactions will be the same. I find it very satisfying to be involved in different projects and to have an impact on the use and development of local properties.
